Played to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic ties between India and Japan, the fixture also serves as a high-octane tune-up for both nations ahead of their respective 2026 Asian Games campaigns.
Despite facing a star-studded Indian side led by Shreyas Iyer and featuring world-class talent like Jasprit Bumrah, Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson, the host nation has vowed not to step back.

For all-rounder Benjamin Ito-Davis, the opportunity to test his skills against the world's best while wearing the Japanese jersey is a dream come true.
"I can't wait to just get out there, take on the challenge, and I'm really looking forward to it," Ito-Davis shared. "To represent Japan on the global stage and promote cricket in Japan is something I'm really honoured and proud to do. As a team, we want to show that we can compete against a team like India and show that Japan spirit—the Japan way—while playing in a fair and respectful way."
Strict Selection & Sisterly Wisdom
In a bold move that highlights their long-term vision, the Japan Cricket Association (JCA) opted against selecting players who would be ineligible under stricter Asian Games regulations. With names like Abhishek Anand, Esam Rahman, Abdul Samad, and Sabaorish Ravichandran sidelined, the spotlight falls on core players like Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake, Makoto Taniyama, and Wataru Miyauchi to lead the charge.
For pacer Jake Kusuda-Nairn, inspiration comes from closer to home. His sister, Elena Kusuda-Nairn, was part of the Japanese women's squad that faced India in their Asian Games quarter-final in Nagoya.
"She just told me to take everything in and enjoy myself out there," Jake revealed. "I'm just going to take it one ball at a time. A couple of wickets would be nice."
Specifically, Kusuda-Nairn has his sights set on India’s 15-year-old batting prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The two sides have previous youth international history: Sooryavanshi made 23 before falling to Japan’s Charlie Hara-Hinze during the ACC U19 Asia Cup in Sharjah back in 2024.

The history between Japanese cricket and Indian stars runs deeper than many realize. Back in the 2020 U19 Men's Cricket World Cup in Bloemfontein, South Africa, Japan crossed paths with an Indian squad that featured current senior stars Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravi Bishnoi.
Joint top-scorer for Japan in that 2020 World Cup clash was Shu Noguchi. Six years later, the 23-year-old’s relationship with the game has evolved—he now serves as a key member of the groundstaff at the Sano International Cricket Ground, preparing the very surface his national team will play on against India.
Japan’s youth system has continued to surge forward since then, recently securing their first-ever victory at a global ICC event by defeating Tanzania at the U19 World Cup.

Win or lose, the Japanese squad recognizes that playing against the reigning World Champions is a transformative moment for cricket in East Asia.
For Ito-Davis and his teammates, success on Tuesday goes far beyond the scorecard.
"If I'm able to maybe inspire a Japanese kid to play cricket, boy or girl, to try cricket for the first time, that would be my greatest success story," Ito-Davis stated. "A chance to promote the game even more in Japan is my ultimate goal."
